Calculate how using an air fryer can save energy and money.

Curious about how much electricity and money you could potentially save by using your air fryer instead of your large conventional oven? While exact savings vary based on your specific appliance models, cooking temperatures, and local electricity rates, this calculator provides a simple estimate based on the typical wattage and cooking times of each appliance for a single cooking task. See the numbers and understand the potential savings!

Conventional Oven: -- kWh | Estimated Cost: $--

Estimated Energy Saving: -- kWh | Estimated Cost Saving: $--

Air fryers generally save energy by cooking faster and heating a smaller space compared to larger ovens.

Understanding the Calculation

This calculator uses the following basic formulas:

  • Energy (kWh) = (Appliance Wattage in Watts / 1000) * (Cooking Time in Hours)
  • Cost ($) = Energy (kWh) * Electricity Cost ($ per kWh)

For example, a 1500W air fryer used for 15 minutes (0.25 hours) at an electricity cost of $0.15/kWh would consume: (1500 / 1000) * 0.25 = 1.5 * 0.25 = 0.375 kWh. The cost would be: 0.375 * 0.15 = $0.056 (about 6 cents).

A 3000W oven used for 25 minutes (approx 0.42 hours) at the same rate would consume: (3000 / 1000) * 0.42 = 3 * 0.42 = 1.26 kWh. The cost would be: 1.26 * 0.15 = $0.189 (about 19 cents).

In this example, using the air fryer saved approximately 0.885 kWh and $0.133 (about 13 cents) for that specific task.

Note: These are estimates. Actual energy usage can vary based on the specific appliance's efficiency, how long it takes to preheat, the cooking temperature, and factors like door/drawer opening. However, the principle that faster cooking in a smaller cavity uses less energy than a slower cook in a larger one is generally true!
